Task 1 Group work
Invent the synopsis of a Gothic short-film inspired by Poe's Tell-Tale Heart.
Task 2 Group work
Learn more about cinematic techniques and ideas of cinema and choose some that you will incorporate into your own short-film.
Please note that task one and two were performed with the help of Jérome Gouin from La Maison de l'image in Aubenas, and were funded by the Erasmus+ Subvention allocated to the project ACTION!Task 3 (Evaluated) Group work
1. Create a cinematic portfolio including the synopsis of your film and the cinematic techniques that you want to incorporate into your film : types of shots, music, sound effects and many more.
2. Prepare an oral presentation of your work in order to present your ideas to the rest of the group.

Watch and analyse the adaptation of the Tell-Tale Heart by Bart Mastronardi.--> Focus on the similarities and the differences between the short-story and the film.
--> List the cinematic techniques used in the film. How do they convey the themes, the feelings and the literary techniques of the short story?
Task 5 Class work
Ask some questions to Bart Mastronardi about his adaptation. He will send his answers through video clips.
Here are the questions created by the students:
1. Why did you choose the song "Canon In D by Pachelbell throughout the movie?
2. What is the symbolical meaning of the tears collected on the cotton shaft?
3. Why did you include a seduction scene?
4. Why did you choose two women and not two men?
5. Why did you want to adapt Poe's stories and those ones in particular?
6. How long did it take to make the film (from the writing to the editing)?
7. Why did you choose to begin the film in an asylum?
8. Why did you make the film so bloody?
9. How did you get the idea of the end, with the ripping of the tongue?
10. Where do you find inspiration and who are you favorite directors.
Use some of Bart Mastronardi's cinematic techniques to enrich the cinematic quality of your own short film.
Task 7 (Evaluated) Group work
Write the script of your film respecting the formal constraints of the genre.
Draw the story board of the main scenes.

FINAL TASK Group work
1. Shoot the scenes of your film with the help of Jérome Gouin from Maison de l'image or on your own.
2. Edit your film with the help of Jérome Gouin.
Please note that these two tasks are funded by the Erasmus+ subvention allocated to the project ACTION!FINAL EVALUATION
Your short films will be evaluated at three different levels:
Level 1 : Film director Bart Mastronardi will select the one he likes most and will explain his choice.
Level 2 : One other film will be selected by your classmates after debates in class and a vote.
Level 3: The two selected films will be shown during the second short film festival ACTION! in Romania in May 2017 in the non official category, along with some other films created by our partners. One of the two may win a prize in the framework of this festival. Some of you will go to Romania to represent France.
